Ghost Rider is a somewhat niche comic book character to base a movie on, so the 2007 film was always going to be a hard sell. Unfortunately, that sale was made even harder by the casting of Nicolas Cage in the lead role.
Critics and audiences alike felt that not only was Cage too old to play the young daredevil Johnny Blaze, but he also brought a much too manic energy to a character that is meant to be incredibly intense and stoic.
