If you’re going to star in a musical, it helps to be able to carry a tune. However, when the musical film ‘Les Miserables’ was released, critics had some particular criticism for Russell Crowe, who was playing the character Javert.
Critics argued that, while Crowe was obviously giving the part his best shot, it seemed that he was having serious trouble meeting the standard of vocals that you would expect from someone in such an important part – which undermined the impact of his role a fair bit.
