The 2013 film ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ received mixed views from critics, who saw it as an aesthetically impressive but muddled prequel to the 1939 classic ‘The Wizard of Oz’. One of the biggest criticisms was of the decision to cast James Franco as the Wizard.
While Franco is certainly a talented actor, critics were of the opinion that he was unable to bring a sense of earnest emotion to the well-meaning but morally ambiguous Oz.
