The film ‘Joy’ is a heartfelt biopic of Joy Mangano – a single mother who struggled with poverty before she managed to reverse her fortunes with the invention of a self-wringing mop.
However, the casting of Jennifer Lawrence as Mangano seemed like an odd choice to many audience members. Mangano was in her thirties during the period in which the film is set, but Lawrence was only twenty-five – which made it hard for audiences to believably see her as Mangano.
