[post_page_title]Ditch Tonto, pronto[/post_page_title]
It’s unfortunate when older works of art are re-evaluated and recognized as having insulting or stereotypical elements to them – but it’s plain ridiculous when contemporary films make no effort to avoid such things.
A case in point is ‘The Lone Ranger’, a 2013 adaptation of the 20th century radio series. For some reason, Johnny Depp was cast as the Native American character Tonto – in a move that critics saw as irresponsible and insulting, when it would have been easy to cast a Native American actor.
