Despite a huge budget and an all-star cast, ‘Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets’ was a box-office bomb that met with a resounding ‘meh’ from critics. One major problem people had with the film was the casting of Cara Delevingne as Laureline – a soldier and partner of the eponymous Valerian.
Critics felt that, as an inexperienced actor, it was hard for Delevingne to act as an anchor for a film swimming in CGI and special effects – which requires a strong acting presence to ground and give weight to.
