The ‘Star Wars’ franchise plays host to a notorious divide in opinion between the beloved original trilogy, and the maligned sequel trilogy. For audiences and reviewers, one of the major weaknesses of the sequel trilogy was the casting of Hayden Christensen in the role of Anakin Skywalker.
Both critics and ‘Star Wars’ fans felt that he was unable to do justice to the transformation of Anakin from a paragon of light to a master of darkness – and with the sequels centering around Anakin, that was something of a problem.
