Although the home district of Katniss and her family, District 12, was a main focus of The Hunger Games books and movies, many dedicated fans have pondered on its specialty. While each of the 12 districts is known for specializing in a particular good to provide for the rich, District 12, the poorest of all, is responsible for coal mining.
The Capitol certainly seems to be very developed and technically advanced, so doesn’t the idea that they would still be relying on coal for their energy seem just a bit far-fetched?
