Fans couldn’t help but notice how in the first film, the Everdeen household pet Buttercup is clearly a black and white cat. Then, suddenly, in Catching Fire he becomes a fluffier cat with orange stripes that is also cute but in no way resembles the original.
So, why the sudden change? According to director Francis Lawrence, who took over the franchise from Catching Fire, the second version better resembled the Buttercup from the novels – although it is still confusing nonetheless.
