I once worked at a retail store where the manager was faking returns. What he would do is process the returns on his own credit card, instead of the store’s cashier system. He got away with it for about a month, but eventually got caught by the district manager.
That guy was smart enough to know something was off about the return receipts, and immediately talked to HR. Within an hour, they fired the manager, and made him pay back everything he stole in return for not going to jail.
