[post_page_title]Janis Joplin[/post_page_title]
The voice of the Flower Generation, singer-songwriter Janis Joplin’s musical career spanned only eight years but was still hugely influential decades later. Like many other members of her generation of rock stars, she succumbed to personal demons on October 4, 1970, a member of the ill-fated “27 club.”
This photo was taken several weeks prior, on August 12, during a sold-out performance at Harvard Stadium. Joplin did what she does best, wowing the 40,000 spectators. It would be her last ever concert, and the funny thing is that this photo, part of a larger series, wasn’t discovered until 2015 – 45 years after her untimely passing.
