2020 dealt sports fans the world over yet another blow when Diego Maradona passed away unexpectedly in late November. The 60-year-old Argentinian soccer legend, who led his country to a controversial win in the 1986 FIFA World Cup, battled various health issues and personal demons in recent years.
After undergoing apparently successful emergency brain surgery, he posed for this photo with his doctor. It would turn out to be his last, as he passed away suddenly due to cardiac arrest days after being discharged from the hospital. His country subsequently went into three days of national mourning.
