The conflict that has erupted between kids and parents on the one hand, and schools and school boards on the other also points to fundamental changes in mainstream society. These dress codes were not created in a vacuum, but were put in place based on the societal values of the 20th century.
Whether they were put in place 50 years ago or 20, society keeps evolving and so does our values. And it’s safe to say school kids of today have strong opinions about perceived injustices.
