2000’s ‘Gladiator’ is another historical war-epic that got audiences and critics applauding loudly – it too won the Best Picture Oscar at the 73rd Academy Awards. However, once again, producers didn’t pay enough attention to the historical accuracy of the picture.
Why? Well, throughout the film, which is set in 180 AD, Russell Crowe’s character is frequently referred to as ‘The Spaniard’, but in reality, this was a common nickname that didn’t come about until the 1300s!
