There are many reasons why someone would put themselves ahead of others, and ageism is sadly one of them. It’s something that could arguably apply to this story, with the neighbor probably assuming Oliver wouldn’t put up a fight because of his age.
At 79-years-old, he certainly wasn’t a spring chicken, but that doesn’t mean he was just going to lie down and be walked over by someone younger than him. Lynch proved he still had a lot of fight left in him, and it helped him win his case.
