While people in suburban neighborhoods still typically make an effort to get to know one another, it’s nothing like it used to be. Once upon a time, new residents would get special treatment when they moved into a neighborhood.
The locals would come round wanting to say hello, possibly armed with a homemade meal, so the newbies didn’t have to cook anything. Over the years, that’s changed as people have become more distant. We expect it’s probably related to how fixated everyone seems to be with their phones nowadays.
