The ordeal that Lynch went through is very reminiscent of what author Franz Kafka talked about when discussing man’s fight against bureaucratic machines. Oliver had everything in his favor, from the fact he owned the land his driveway was on, to the proof of his claim.
Yet even with all that working for him, the local authorities still did nothing to help him resolve his issue. Things could have been smoothed over a lot quicker if they’d intervened, but instead, they’d forced Lynch to take matters into his own hands.
