Japan’s military is one that comes with a particularly strange caveat. As one of the richest countries in the world, Japan also has one of the largest military budgets – and has a military force of just under 250,000 active personnel, and 56,000 reserve personnel.
However, Japan relinquished its right to declare war several decades ago, meaning that its military can only act in defensive, reactive ways. Despite this, however, the Japanese military is regarded as one of the strongest and most capable in the world.
