In 1994, South Africa underwent a massive change in its government – and this also led to changes in its military. As such, the South African military, in the form it currently takes, was set up in 1994.
The military of South Africa currently possesses 78,000 active personnel, and 15,000 reserve personnel. While this is a little smaller than usual for a country with a population of around fifty-million, South Africa’s military is well-equipped – with 30 naval crafts, 195 tanks, and 212 planes to hand.
