As the country with the fourth-largest population in the world, Indonesia has no shortage of volunteers for its military service. Although technically the Indonesian military can conscript people to its forces, it hasn’t needed to over the years, as volunteer numbers have been high.
The military consists of an active force of almost 400,000 people, and a reserve force of 400,000. Indonesia’s armed forces also engage in public works, as part of a military philosophy that aims to create a strong bond between civilians and combat personnel.
