The Canadian military is surprisingly small for a country that is one of the most prosperous in the world. With a civilian population of 37 million, by contrast, Canada’s military only has 68,000 active members and 27,000 reserve members.
Despite this relatively low number, the Canadian military had a 2018 budget of $21 billion, the 14th-highest in the world. In addition, Canada’s military is extremely well-trained and equipped – and its special forces are very well thought of internationally.
