The nation of Singapore in Southeast Asia has one of the largest militaries relative to its population – with almost 1.5 million personnel on active or reserve in total, and a population of just 5 million.
Part of the reason that Singapore has such a large pool of reserve personnel is its conscription program – which mandates that upon reaching 18, a person must spend up to two years undergoing military training and service, As such, while Singapore has only 72,000 active soldiers, it has almost 1.4 million people in reserve.
