[post_page_title]How the Boardwalk Empire was built[/post_page_title]
Boardwalk Empire charted the rise and fall of politician and gangster Nucky Thompson in Prohibition-era Atlantic City, New Jersey. It was an enormous production. Just to put things into perspective, the pilot episode alone cost $18 million to create. And looking at this photo, we can kind of see why.
The cast and crew could have gotten themselves to some harbor to film the scene you see below. Instead, they filmed on a nondescript tenement block instead, and created the harbor – complete with two huge ships – digitally. It completely ruins the immersion of the period, but now we’re even more impressed knowing how they did it.
