Seven years after it ended, we can say The Office was one of the best comedies of the past two decades. The character of Michael Scott especially, who couldn’t have been played by anyone other than Steve Carell, is still quoted endlessly today. Part of the show’s charm was in the amount of leeway it gave its actors to ad-lib.
Carell and Rainn Wilson were notorious for improvising on the set. That’s why seeing this still from the show’s second episode, showing Carell and director Craig Zisk, kinda ruins it for us. It just reminds us that however on-the-spot it may have seemed, there was still someone in charge.
