The Gong Show was an amateur talent show in the late 1970s that was hosted by Chuck Barris. His style of offbeat humor brought many viewers to the show, but the people in charge didn’t understand it.
Eventually, they grew tired of Barris and canceled the show in 1980. Not happy with their decision, Barris wanted some kind of revenge so appeared as a contestant himself. Barris sang ‘Take the Job and Shove It’ before walking off while flipping the bird to end it all in a blaze of glory.
