The American version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire has been running continuously, in some form or another, since 1999. The show’s first and most iconic host was Regis Philbin, who we have sadly lost in July, 2020. It was during Regis’ time as host, though, that the show hit a bit of controversy.
In the twenty-plus years it’s been running, only 13 people have won the million – nine of them between 1999 and 2001. This clip was a little too much for the show’s insurance company, Lloyd’s of London, which sued ABC for “unacceptable losses” because they believed the questions weren’t challenging enough!
