The show’s first and most iconic host was Regis Philbin, who we have sadly lost in July, 2020. It was during Regis’ time as host, though, that the show hit a bit of controversy.

In the twenty-plus years it’s been running, only 13 people have won the million – nine of them between 1999 and 2001. This clip was a little too much for the show’s insurance company, Lloyd’s of London, which sued ABC for “unacceptable losses” because they believed the questions weren’t challenging enough!
