Even if the real father does come forward, Richard voiced his hope that Willem, Joel, and Ed will always think of him as their dad. For now, a persistent cough is the only external clue that he’s unwell. In the future, however, he knows that will change.
He doesn’t have long, and with no prospect of fathering children of his own, he wants nothing more than to be his boys’ dad once more. “If I could wave a magic wand,” he concluded, “I would want to be in all their lives.”
