Tupac Shakur helped to redefine a genre in a way that few ever manage. Starting with the release of his 1991 debut album ‘2Pacalypse Now’, Shakur made socially conscious rap music that dealt explicitly with social inequality, economic disparity, and racism, among other topics.
Shakur’s music expanded the scope of what rap music could tackle, and the styles it could employ. This photo was taken in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996, the day of Shakur’s passing.
