If asked to pin down the main appeal of Johnny Cash, we would have to say it was how human he managed to appear. The singer/songwriter tackled several different genres and numerous different topics over his career.
Songs about love, war, loneliness, happiness, building a car out of several other cars – he covered it all. Running through all of those songs is the impression that the man singing is deeply human – a humanity that radiates from this photo of Cash in his twilight years, taken in 2003 by singer Marty Stuart.
