Actress Lucille Ball was a true trailblazer. In 1951, the sitcom ‘I Love Lucy’ – produced by and starring Ball and her husband Dezi Arnaz – began airing, and was soon to become the biggest show on TV.
The show would go on to set the formula for American sitcoms for decades to come, and its influence is still felt today. Ball can still be seen sporting her signature red hair in this photo, taken on the red carpet of the 61st Academy Awards, on March 29, 1989.
