While Al Bundy represented the everyman, an average Joe, Katey Sagal’s character, Peggy Bundy, was the opposite of how women were often portrayed in sitcoms. Instead of representing the ideal wife and mother, she was, well, human. She could be vain, selfish, and materialistic. Of course, despite all that, she still loved her family, just like Al. Indeed, she put her family before anyone else, and while her parenting techniques may have been unique — to say the least — viewers could always tell she cared.
