There’s a long tradition of ugly sweaters – apparel from all eras, movements, and seasons that makes you stop and say, ‘They really thought that looked good?’ However, while we might all think that such sweaters are in fact ugly, we all agree not to say it out loud.
We put on a strained smile and refer to them as ‘unique’, ‘interesting’, or ‘characterful’ – but never ‘ugly’. This person is breaking that sacred covenant – which is made worse by the fact that the sweater at the front is actually great.
