Since Richard’s CF diagnosis two years ago, his lung capacity has dropped dramatically, from 84 to 72 percent. By his reckoning, he has about a decade before he’ll need an oxygen tank to breathe – precisely what happened to his sister before she succumbed to CF and passed away.
The only thing keeping him going is his love for his new wife, Emma. However, the two have had to make peace with the fact they’ll never have children together – other than Richard’s CF, Emma suffers from breast cancer, and chemotherapy has made her infertile as well.
