The four school Houses in Harry Potter – Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin – have become increasingly popular ways of categorizing personalities. People love taking online quizzes to find out which group they would belong to if they existed in the world of wizards. In the movies there wasn’t a personality test; the students’ fate was at the hands of an old magic hat. It decided whether they were courageous (Gryffindor), brilliant (Ravenclaw), kind (Hufflepuff), or conniving (Slytherin) and split them into groups based on that narrow judgement. Now, imagine schools in real life functioned with a system like this? That would not go over well.
