Staff might not get paid all that much while working with the royals but there is one benefit. When working at the palace, the staff actually become residents, which means they can tell people that they once lived in a palace.
The rooms they get to stay in are modest, normally equipped with just a single bed, but they come with everything a person could need. Not paying rent means their lower salaries go further, and that’s justification for the palace to pay them a lower annual salary.
