Staff have no choice but to follow the etiquette, and that means they have to look the part when inside the palace. They have to speak in formal language and are not allowed to use any colloquialisms.
Staff attend all events held by the royals, which can require them to wear tailcoats and dresses to make sure they don’t stand out. Remember, palace staff mustn’t make their presence felt while working so must do their best to blend in as much as possible.
