To a certain degree, it doesn’t really matter whether or not Denny’s story is true. Obviously it would be nice for such an act of charity – and the glowing response – to have actually happened, but it could still function as a lesson were it not real.
A modern-day parable, Denny’s story – true or not – demonstrates the importance of going out of one’s way to show compassion and humanity. As long as people take that notion to heart, this story could happen a thousand times around the world every day.
