Denny was gobsmacked – but the captain had a very good reason for wanting to extend his thanks. He explained to Denny that, for a time in his life, he had been a military pilot – and, much like the soldiers Denny helped, someone had bought him a lunch out of kindness once.
He had appreciated it so much when that person had extended their goodwill to him – so when he heard what Denny had done, it warmed his heart and made him want to show his gratitude.
