The person who had stopped Denny was another passenger, who wanted to talk to him briefly. This man had seen the act of kindness that Denny had performed for the soldiers, and was incredibly impressed.
He told Denny that he also wanted to help, and Denny found $25 being placed into his hand, as the man thanked him for setting such an example. Once again, Denny was very grateful for this gesture, but felt he had only acted as anyone else would have.
