Before Willona adopts Penny, she is living with her biological mother, Linella. Unfortunately, not everything is as it seems. Linella gave birth to Penny when she was just 16 years old, and it looks as though she wasn’t ready to become a mother. As a result, Penny suffered through years of danger.
Only, the Evans later learn that Linella, too, suffered the same fate throughout her childhood. The character goes on to marry a wealthy husband and battles to get Penny back, but she fails when her daughter chooses to live with Willona instead.

Following her brief time on Good Times, Chip moved on to play the part of Rita Conway in the superhero show The Amazing Spider-Man before it was canceled after just one year on the air. However, the actress has since turned her hand to directing.
Over the last few years, Chip has helped direct for the sitcoms One on One, Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, and House of Payne, and the musical comedy show Hannah Montana. As if that wasn’t enough, Chip has also passed on her acting knowledge to her two daughters, Alexis and Kim Fields.
