[post_page_title]John Amos as James Evans[/post_page_title]
James started his life as a soldier in the Korean War where he learned the importance of family values and doing anything to protect the ones you love. However, time on the front line means the character never got the chance to go into further education.
As a result, James is forced to take any manual job that comes his way as he battles to drag his family out of poverty. Although he is always busy at work, James always has the time to be there for his family – and interrogate any boys Thelma brings home.

John has been in a vast number of productions over the years, including the miniseries Roots, the sitcom The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and the rom-com Coming to America.
However, the actor left his role in Good Times after he had a disagreement with the show’s director about J.J. taking the part of the lead character. As a result, his character was permanently written out of the show. Ouch. Most recently, John has been seen in the web comedy series the Ranch and spends his spare time recording country music songs.
