One aspect that Nelson has been adamant about regarding his work with the family was that he did very little to augment or improve the images compared to what they naturally were when he first took the image.
He has stated that he never retouched the images to change anything about them. Instead, he is mostly focused on the balance and contrast or tone of the image. His reason was because his work focuses on real issues and should be viewed in their most honest and original versions.
