Dads often think they’re the funniest people around. Many kids also think their dads are really funny but in a different way. There’s a big difference between laughing at someone and laughing with someone.
Perhaps this kid just got the saying backward, as kids often do. But it’s just as likely that they really did mean that they laugh at failed attempts at humor rather than the intended jokes.
