We live in a world full of abbreviations, and these normally make life so much easier. After all, who has time to write out exactly what they say? We have people to see and things to do. Although these abbreviations are normally pretty helpful, they can get a little complicated if the people you’re talking to want you to go the extra mile.
This person probably thought that they could send “ily” and completely ghost their other half when they sent this, but then they had to go and spoil it all by saying something stupid like “spell it out.”
