[post_page_title]Doc Brown, hero and perpetrator of insurance fraud[/post_page_title]
Eagle-eyed viewers of the first movie might’ve noticed that Doc Brown’s 1955 house is huge compared to his 1985 digs. There’s a reason for that – where Doc lives in 1985 used to be his garage. So where did the rest of the house go? Well, one early scene shows a newspaper clipping bearing the headline “Brown mansion destroyed” and the sub-headline “Brown estate sold to developers.”
According to screenwriter Bob Gale, this subtly implies Doc burned his house down and collected the insurance money. It explains how he could devote his life to (mad) science without having a job, but it also makes him a straight up criminal!
