[post_page_title]Rock and roll already existed in 1955, guys[/post_page_title]
Marty’s performance of “Johnny B. Goode” at the Enchantment Under the Sea dance is one of the first movie’s absolute high points – and one of popular cinema’s most iconic scenes. Marty and his backup band simply scorch the stage, leaving the square ’50s student of Hill Valley High School completely shell-shocked at what they just witnessed.
The whole point is that it’s a sound they’ve never heard before… only they had. By 1955, Chuck Berry was already a star, and Elvis Presley’s popularity was skyrocketing. Also, implying Berry, a rock-and-roll trailblazer, just ripped off some white kid to get big is really uncalled for.
