[post_page_title]Poor Marty doesn’t seem to understand how death works[/post_page_title]
As confusing as Back to the Future’s alternating timelines are, at one point poor, confused Marty seems to not understand the very concept of passing on. After the whole Libyan shootout at the mall that leaves Doc Brown full of holes, Marty hops into the DeLorean and unwittingly travels back in time to 1955.
Knowing he’s his only hope of getting back, Marty looks up Doc in a phonebook. When he finds him, he excitedly proclaims, “He’s alive!” Well… Yeah, why wouldn’t he be? Doc dying in 1985 merely ended his existence – it didn’t erase it from history.
