[post_page_title]Marty’s supposedly edgy band is hilariously vanilla[/post_page_title]
Early in the first movie, we discover that Marty’s nursing a dream of rock superstardom, much like pretty much every other ’80s movie teen protagonist. He’s even got a band, The Pinheads, which vies for a spot at a Hill Valley High School battle of the bands.
Performing “The Power of Love” by Huey Lewis and the News before some school administrators, they get rejected for being “too darn loud” – by Lewis himself, appearing in a clever cameo. The only thing is that despite their punk-sounding name, The Pinheads make the Eagles sound like Norwegian death metal. They’re middle-of-the-road dad rock, but we’re supposed to think they’re edgy.
