The cool thing about Back to the Future is that it uses the same actors to portray characters at different ages. These days, it would all be slightly unnerving de-aging CGI. Nothing even close to that existed in 1985, obviously, so the movie had to rely on heavy make-up and prosthetics. That’s great – it’s what made the original Star Wars so timeless.
But the emphasis here is on “heavy” – despite only a 30-year difference between 1985 and 1955, 47-year-old George, Lorraine, and Biff look like they’re in their 60s, all wrinkled and haggard – and they dress accordingly, too. Meanwhile, Doc Brown looks identical and 1955 and 1985.
