While Crispin Glover only appeared as George McFly in the first movie, Lea Thompson appeared in all three movies. In the first and second Back to the Future movies, she plays Lorraine McFly, or Lorraine Baines as she was known before marrying George. The third one, though, is different. In the third movie, Thompson plays Marty’s ancestor Maggie McFly.
Except that Maggie is also George’s ancestor, and has no genetic link whatsoever to Lorraine – so why do they look so similar? Screenwriter Bob Gale attempted to explain it by saying the McFly men have always been attracted to women who look like Maggie, but that’s pretty weak.
